Attitudes are positive or negative reactions to someone or somewhat which are affected by beliefs, feelings, or behavior, while prejudices are related to judgments that are created in advance and they are directed toward specific groups. Stigma is a basic component of negative discrimination which people with mental illnesses experience on a daily basis, and even in the healthcare system which affects the very outcome of patient treatment. The goal of the study was to test the attitudes of students at the Faculty of Health Studies in Rijeka about people with mental disorders. In total 60 full-time students and 64 part-time nursing students were examined. To make the research possible, an online anonymous survey questionnaire was created using BACE (Barriers to Accessing Care Evaluation), MICA-2 (Mental Illness: Clinicians´Attitudes Scale) i QUAD (Questionnaire on Anticipated Discrimination). It consisted of two groups of questions and statements, with a total of 26. The end results showed that the students are familiar with prevention of stigmatization, but it is surprising that part-time students are showing more negative attitudes because they have more experience in working with the mentally ill patients. The reason for this probably lies in the educational deficiency at professional congresses, and the lack of lectures and workshops in various smaller towns. In conclusion, the attitudes of health professionals about mental health are reflecting on the entire population because they are the first who can influence all generations through health education.
