Chronic lumbar spine pain is considered a global public health problem today due to its high prevalence, high treatment costs, and work disability costs. Chronic pain in the lumbar spine greatly affects the level of quality of life of each individual, so it is important to assess it in a timely, quality and continuous manner along with the degree of disability. In order to improve the quality of life of patients with chronic lumbar spine pain around the world and in the Republic of Croatia, various complementary therapies are increasingly used, such as acupuncture, which is part of a holistic approach to modern treatment, originating from traditional Chinese medicine. The main goal of this paper is to point out the role and importance as well as the frequency of acupuncture as a form of complementary therapy that has a positive impact on the quality of life of the patient with regard to the duration of the disease. The survey was organized as a cross-sectional survey (x). The study included all persons over 18 years of age who suffer from chronic pain in the lumbar spine, where acupuncture was used to alleviate symptoms and to improve the quality of life. A total 53 of patients Special hospital for Orthopedics Biograd n/M participated in the research. The research was conducted in the period from from June to July to Special hospital for Orthopedics Biograd n/M. The implementation of the research was approved by the ethics committee Special hospital for Orthopedics Biograd n/M. The research data were collected by retrospective insight into the electronic database Special hospital for Orthopedics Biograd n/M.. The measurement of the level of quality of life was done with a questionnaire for assessing the quality of life of the World Health Organization called WHOQOL-BREF, which examines different domains of human life and is a quality and accurate indicator of the evaluation of patients with chronic lumbar spine pain. The most common predictor of quality of life is the degree of disability expressed by the intensity of the pain a person feels. The degree of disability is measured by a number of questionnaires, and the intensity of pain a person feels is measured using an analog scale for pain assessment. The Oswestry Disability Questionnaire will be used in this study.
