Introduction: Swimming is a beneficial sport, however it can cause injuries just like any other sport. The most common injuries among swimmers are shoulder injuries. An injury leaves both, a psychological and physical mark. Research goal: the main goal of this research is to determine how common shoulder injury is, as well as to determine the psychological response of an athlete to it. Method: this research was completed by 34 swimmers and 22 students from the 5th year of the Master’s program in physical therapy. The average age of the swimmers who completed the research questionnaire is 20,7, while the average age of the students of the P.T. program is 24,6. The research participants had to answer multiple self-assessed questions: sociodemographic questionnaire which included personal information and information about the injury, the DASS-21 questionnaire which includes a depression, anxiety and stress scale; a questionnaire about coping with injury, and the SPADI questionnaire about pain level and the dysfunction caused by shoulder injury. Results: twenty out of thirty-four swimmers who completed the research had shoulder injury. The frequency of the shoulder injury is not connected with the sociodemographic characteristics. Overall, the research participants (both swimmers and students) have good mental health. Those swimmers who are practicing swimming for more than 10 years, are more likely to develop an injury. Moreover, regarding the current COVID-19 situation, swimmers are more likely to have troubles adapting to their everyday life when comparing to students. Conclusion: The research participants, swimmers and students have good mental health. Further research should include more participants and have a physiotherapist assessment done in order to determine the injuries and their locations more precisely.
