Introduction: The central venous catheter is an important part of the treatment of the pediatric population. The use of a central venous catheter in the long-term treatment of severely ill children has contributed to easier and safer access to the vascular system. The central venous catheter allows blood to be used for diagnostic tests, cytostatics, blood products and large amounts of fluids. The use of central venous catheters reduces the risk of complications that come with the use of the peripheral venous route such as perforation of the veins, extravasation of the drug frequent puncture of the veins which creates additional trauma for the most vulnerable group of patients. The aim of the research is to gain insight into the knowledge of students of the professional undergraduate study of nursing at the Faculty of Health Studies in Rijeka about central venous catheters in children. Methods: The study was conducted on a sample of 131 full-time and part-time students of the first, second and third year of the undergraduate professional study of nursing at the Faculty of Health Studies in Rijeka. the research will be conducted through a survey questionnaire with the author's measuring instrument developed exclusively for the needs of the research. The questionnaire was compiled according to the standards of writing the survey - demographics, level of education, self-assessment of knowledge are examined. The survey consisted of 20 closed-ended questions. Results: Nursing students have satisfactory knowledge of central venous catheters. Part-time nursing students possess a higher degree of knowledge about central venous catheters as do second- and third-year undergraduate students. Conclusion: Students' knowledge of central venous catheters largely depends on the representation of individual courses in the curriculum where full-time nursing students acquire information about central venous catheters through various courses and clinical exercises, while part-time students have some knowledge of previous work experience and clinical practice.
