There is no cure for osteoarthritis, only the consequences it causes can be treated. The consequences of osteoarthritis are treated surgically or more often non-operatively (conservatively). In surgical treatment, the joint bodies affected by osteoarthritis are replaced, while conservative treatment focuses more on alleviating and eliminating the consequences that have arisen in this disease. Osteoarthritis is diagnosed by X-ray or by clinical examination. Physical modalities such as ultrasound, interference currents, magnetotherapy and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, as well as exercises to strengthen the muscles of the hip and upper leg, are applied conservatively. The physiotherapist plays a major role in the overall care of patients suffering from osteoarthritis as he performs most of the physical procedures and exercises.
