In the modern world, eating disorders are an extremely serious public health problem that have a negative influence on the mental and physical health of the human. In this bachelor thesis the topic of family perception of anorexia will be described. The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to research the bond between mother and child with the growth of anorexia nervosa and to research the bond between family relationships and the symptoms of anorexia nervosa. The paper will contain the sources from reliable search engines such as the Portal of Croatian scientific and professional journals Hrčak, the portal of the Croatian Scientific Bibliography, the portal of the University Library in Rijeka and the Pubmed portal. In addition to the above, literature will be used, which includes manuals on anorexia nervosa published between 2011 and 2022. The criteria will include the target population between the ages of 10 and 18 , where eating disorders are most common. Anorexia nervosa is defined as self – initiated starvation aimed at maintaining an individual's minimum body weight. This eating disorder is characterized by a complete distortion of the perception of own body, and can cause complications and life – threatening conditions. Causes of anorexia nervosa include multiple effects of biological, psychological and sociological factors. Researched sources confirm that set hypotheses of family relations are considered as an serious factor in the development of eating disorders, whether it is a mother – child relationship or family dynamics in general. Feeling and feeding are central processes in the formation of personality during development, are the basis for creating basic security of the child and take place, first in the mother – child relationship and are extremely important later for interpersonal relationships. The diagnosis is complex and involves a detailed assessment of physical and mental condition. Treatment is very complicated and demands the work of a multidisciplinary group of experts, with constant education of health professionals. The obtained results reliably point to the importance of educating future mothers and fathers about parenting.
