Abstract Enterostomalni terapeut je medicinska sestra/tehničar koja završetkom specijalizacije enterostomalne terapije stječe novi opseg kompetencija, samostalnost i odgovornost iz područja brige i njege o svim vrstama stome, rane i inkontinencije.
Abstract (english) An enterostomal therapist is a nurse/technician who, upon completion of the specialization in enterostomal therapy, acquires a new range of competences, independence and responsibility in the area of care and care for all types of stoma, wounds and incontinence. He takes care of patients with stoma and fistula, patients who are at risk of pressure ulcers due to lying down for a long time, and those with chronic wounds. He understands person as a complete individual, who accordingly has his own needs. The enterostomal therapist is educated on the importance of providing a holistic approach, which strives to provide a proper, complete approach to the patient in order to become independent as soon as possible, get used to it and accept the new condition.
The aim of this work is to investigate, compare and show the differences in the information of nursing students about the role and scope of work of the enterostomal therapist in the overall care, care and rehabilitation of the patient using a holistic approach. The research was conducted on first-year full-time and third-year part-time undergraduate professional nursing students, due to the difference in education level and the existence of work experience among third-year undergraduate professional nursing students.
The testing was carried out using the Hi-square test (with Fisher's correction), and the obtained results show that part-time students of the third year of professional undergraduate nursing studies are more informed about the role and scope of work of an enterostomal therapist than regular students of the first year of professional undergraduate nursing studies, which means that the value of Fisher's test is p<0.05, which means that a statistically significant difference was observed with regard to the year of study. The results also show that both groups of respondents are equally informed about the importance of applying a holistic approach to patients with a stoma. whereby the value of Fisher's test is p<0.05.
This research concludes that part-time students have a greater amount of information about the mentioned topic than regular students, which is attributed to the existing work experience of part-time students. The key aspect of quality care of a patient with a stoma refers to the education of the enterostomal therapist, which enables preparation, in practice and theoretical knowledge, for the proper implementation of all necessary procedures at work.
