Abstract Cerebrovaskularna bolest, odnosno moždani udar nastaje kada se prekine dotok krvi u dio mozga. Krv prenosi bitne hranjive tvari u mozak kako bi on ispravno radio.
Abstract (english) Cerebrovascular disease, or stroke, occurs when the blood supply to a part of the brain is interrupted. The blood carries essential nutrients to the brain in order for it to function properly.
Without blood, brain cells can be damaged or destroyed and will not be able to perform their function. A stroke can cause physical disability, mental impairment and, in some cases, sudden
death. During a stroke, a person may not be able to ask for help or understand what is happening.
Stroke is considered one of the most devastating vascular events that can cause death. As a result of the loss of functional activity and normal lifestyle, stroke survivors may also develop psychosocial disorders. 80% of stroke patients can survive with medical treatment and rehabilitation. Medical treatment depends on the type of stroke. Once patients are medically stable, they begin active rehabilitation to prevent secondary physical, emotional and intellectual deterioration. The rehabilitation team of stroke survivors usually consists of a doctor, nurse, physical and occupational therapist, speech therapist, social worker and psychologist.
This paper describes the procedure and results of research on the general public regarding the degree in which the general public was informed about stroke and their general attitudes about stroke. An electronic questionnaire was used to investigate awareness, recognition of symptoms, and timely reaction. Also, the method of obtaining information about stroke was investigated. The awareness of the general population was investigated with regard to the sociodemographic characteristics of the respondents.
271 adult respondents participated in the research. The results showed an equal level of information regardless of gender. Respondents show the same level of knowledge about stroke, regardless of professional training and age group. The method of obtaining information about stroke in respondents is during schooling, via the Internet and based on personal experience.
In order to prevent the disease, it is necessary to constantly educate the general population about the disease itself and its specificities. It is important to recognize risk factors and react in a timely manner.
