Abstract
Sestrinstvo je kompleksna i zahtjevna profesija. Za njezino struĉno i odgovorno obavljanje potrebno je mnogo znanja, strpljenja i humanosti. Još su u antiĉkim vremenima muškarci dostojno i vjerno obavljali ovaj posao. S vremenom, sestrinstvo je postalo feminizirano zanimanje, naroĉito nakon uspjeha i poţrtvovnosti Florence Nightingale. U današnje je vrijeme vrlo malo muških studenata sestrinstva i muških medicinskih sestara, kako u svijetu, tako i u Hrvatskoj. Muškarac se u sestrinstvu svakodnevno suoĉava s mnogim problemima i izazovima. Velika je potreba za dobrim medicinskim sestrama, naroĉito zbog starenja populacije te bi se upravo zbog toga trebale mnogo više cijeniti vrline i sposobnosti muških medicinskih sestara. Osim velike odgovornosti u poslu koju ovo zanimanje donosi sa sobom, muškarac se u sestrinstvu mora boriti protiv raznih stereotipa te prilagoditi mnogim situacijama. Vaţno je razumjeti zahtjeve ovog posla, u potpunosti mu se posvetiti te iskoristiti svoje znanje i maksimalni potencijal za njegovo uspješno obavljanje, a pri tome je potpuno nebitno kojem spolu pripada medicinska „sestra“.
Abstract (english)
Nursing is a complex and demanding profession. For professional and responsible performance of nursing it is needed a lot of knowledge, patience and humanity. Even in the history, men were worthy and faithful to do this job. Over time, nursing became a feminized profession, especially after the success and sacrifice of Florence Nightingale. Today, there are few male nursing students, as well as few male nurses, both in the world and in Croatia. A man in nursing is facing many problems and challenges on a daily basis. There is a big need for good nurses, especially because of aging population, and that is why the virtues and abilities of male nurses should be more appreciate. In addition to the great responsibility that this job brings with it, a man in nursing has to fight various stereotypes and adapt to many situations. It is important to understand the demands of this job and therefore use a lot of knowledge and maximum potential in care for patients, both women and men.
