Također, utvrđene su statistički značajne razlike u dubini kompresija (p = 0,009) i frekvenciji kompresija (p = 0,003), dok u otpuštanju prsnog koša nije pronađena statistički značajna razlika (p = 0,470).
Abstract (english) Introduction and Research Objective: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a procedure applied in cases of cardiac arrest (1). The outcome of CPR can be influenced by numerous factors, one of which is the level of physical activity of the person performing chest compressions. The aim of this study was to determine the impact of participants' physical activity levels and analyze its correlation with the quality of chest compressions during CPR. Additionally, the influence of the participants' gender as a contributing factor to chest compression quality was examined.
Materials and Methods: The study included 34 out-of-hospital emergency medical workers who completed a sociodemographic questionnaire and the IPAQ physical activity questionnaire. Afterwards, all participants performed chest compressions continuously on a simulation manikin for a duration of 8 minutes. Participants were divided based on their physical activity levels and gender, and chest compression parameters were measured every two minutes. Evaluated parameters included compression depth, chest recoil, compression rate, and overall chest compression quality.
Results: The study results showed a positive correlation between physical activity level and the quality of chest compressions during cardiopulmonary resuscitation. A statistically significant difference in chest compression quality was observed among participants of different physical activity levels across all measured intervals (p < 0.001). Participants with a high level of physical activity achieved significantly better results compared to those with moderate and low activity levels. Additionally, statistically significant differences were found in compression depth (p = 0.009) and compression rate (p = 0.003), while no statistically significant difference was found in chest recoil (p = 0.470). Gender was not found to be a statistically significant factor in chest compression performance (p = 0.556), nor in compression depth (p = 0.229) and compression rate (p = 0.851). However, a statistically significant difference in chest recoil was observed between genders (p = 0.034), with women achieving better results than men.
Conclusion: The level of physical activity significantly affects the quality of chest compressions and the maintenance of their quality during cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Gender, on the other hand, does not influence the overall quality of chest compressions, except in the aspect of chest recoil, where women performed better than men.
