Handball is a contact team sport played with a ball where two opposing teams are trying to achieve supremacy through good technical and tactical training, cooperation and different types of movement. It’s one of the roughest sports played with a ball with a lot of recorded injuries, one of them being the ACL injury. The purpose of this research was to determine the frequency and other details linked with the ACL injury in 58 handball players of the handball clubs in the city of Rijeka. The questionnaire consisted of 24 questions focused on the ACL injury. Twelve out of 58 examinees, four males and eight females, sustained 13 ACL injuries. The average age at which the injury happened was 17,75 years. Most of them injured during the championship matches, mostly during the attack and due to other players’ actions. Ten examinees treated the injury operatively. The rehabilitation process averagely lasted from six to nine months, and the most programmes during at least one of their phases consisted of magnetic field therapy, cryotherapy, and kinesiotherapy. Also, most of the operatively treated examinees perform exercises for prevention of ACL injury. Despite that, two examinees sustained the injury again. Considering the vast amount of time the players spend on the court, together with their coaches they should dedicate additional time to better physical preparation and injury prevention exercises. Since the research enveloped a rather small population of handball players, a bigger, national-level research should be conducted for better results.
