Thyroid, thyroid gland or Latin thyroid glands is an endocrine gland that develops in the third month of embryonic development by multiplication and growth of endodermic epithelium at radix of the tongue. The normal level of thyroid hormone in the organism is called the euthyrosis and is one of the basic preconditions for normal functioning of the body in its entirety. Any deviation from the eutrophic are marked as pathological and the most known is decreased thyroid function or hypothyroidism and increased thyroid function hyperthyroidism. The thyroid gland has a multifactorial function on many organs that are affected by these pathological conditions and it is necessary to recognize them early and start treatment as soon as possible. The aim of this final work was to determine the frequency of well-differentiated thyroid cancer in the General Hospital Pula in a five year interval: January 2012 to january 2017, to determine the type of cancer in the operated patients and to obtain epidemiological data on patients. There is a working hypothesis that there will be a rise in thyroid cancer in the general population is expected because of an improvement in the diagnostic field, no matter of the gender relatively the difference of the incendence between the genders can fit into a statistical error. The results have shown that thyroid cancer is more frequently diagnosed in a female population. The research has shown a trend of increased thyroid cancer in the general population. The most commonly performed surgical procedure as the cure for thyoid cancer is total thyroidectomy, and papillary cancer is still the most common thyroid cancer. The conclusion is in accordance with the hypotheses set. In a retrospective study from 2012 to 2016, in the General Hospital Pula, thyroid cancer tends to increase in the general population.
