Physical activity is an important factor in maintaining health and combined with a balanced diet forms the basis of a healthy lifestyle. A diet that is not adjusted to the guidelines of proper nutrition and the intensity of physical activity can affect the functioning of the body, recovery after training and increase the risk of injury. It is therefore important to examine the eating habits of recreational athletes. The study involved 62 subjects who, depending on the MET min/week, were divided into groups of moderately, intensively and very intensively active recreational athletes. Examination of eating habits showed that despite being aware of the importance of physical activity, recreational athletes are not aware of the importance of a healthy diet. Higher intake of fats, cholesterol and saturated fatty acids was observed, as well as lower intake of carbohydrates than recommended. The intake of most vitamins and some minerals was higher than recommended. Differences between groups of subjects were observed only in the intake of folate and saturated fatty acids. It is necessary to involve nutritionists in the education of recreational athletes so that improper eating habits can be corrected.
