Women are at risk of depression after childbirth, in the postpartum period. Postpartum depression is defined as non psychotic depression that occurs with in the first year of birth, causes mooddisorders, and impairst ejoy and happiness of new mothers. The aim of the study was to assesstheextent to which post partum depression and feelings of anxiety affec breastfeeding. Subject sand methods: Subjects were mothers and pregnant women who were hospitalized in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics of the General Hospital Karlovac. 50 questionnaires were processed, which included: a questionnaire consisting of nine questions that included age, marital status, house hold members, employment status, number of previous pregnancies, number of births, whether the respondents plan to breastfeed and whether they have undergone breastfeeding education, then the Beck Depression Inventory - II (BDI-II) and the Beck Anxiety Scale Questionnaire. The results showed that most respondents are in the age group over 30, married, employed and livingi n a community with a partner. The obtained data were processed using statistical software SPSS 16 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). The conclusion resulting from the data analysis is that thereis no statistically significant association between postpartum depression and breastfeeding anxiety.
