Abstract
Osteoporoza predstavlja ozbiljan zdravstveni problem koji umanjuje kvalitetu života u žena, ali i muškaraca. Sustavni je koštani poremećaj kojeg karakterizira smanjenje koštane mase, povećanje krhkosti kostiju i povećanje rizika od prijeloma. Osteoporoza se javlja kao posljedica starenja, određenih lijekova ili bolesti koji ubrzavaju procese razgradnje kosti. Ponekad se osteoporoza može dijagnosticirati prijelomima ili ozbiljnim zdravstvenim problememima, a većina žena vjerojatno nije svjesna čimbenika rizika koji se prevencijom mogu promijeniti. Prvi korak u prevenciji osteoporoze kod žena trebao bi biti njihovo osvještavanje o čimbenicima rizika. Prevencija treba biti usmjerena na promjenama loših životnih navika kako bi se spriječila bolest. Ključni element za očuvanje zdravlja kostiju je redovita i uravnotežena prehrana, prehrana bogata kalcijem i vitaminom D, kao i održavanje tjelesne aktivnosti. Svrha ovog rada je utvrditi i statistički prikazati koliko su građani Republike Hrvatske educirani o osteoporozi, njezinim rizičnim čimbenicima, komplikacijama i prevenciji. Za utvrđivanje podataka korišten je anketni upitnik sastavljen od 41 pitanja. U istraživanju je sudjelovalo 145 žena i 15 muškaraca, tj. ukupno 160 ispitanika. Rezultati ukazuju da građani Republike Hrvatske manje znaju o rizičnim čimbenicima za osteoporozu, ali odlično prepoznaju kalcij i vitamin D kao nutrijente bitne za zdravlje kostiju. Također istraživanje pokazuje potrebu za povećanjem svjesnosti i edukacije o osteoporozi, važnosti tjelesne aktivnosti i prehrane u prevenciji osteoporoze.
Abstract (english)
Osteoporosis is a serious health problem that reduces the quality of life in women, but also in men. It is a systemic bone disorder characterized by a decrease in bone mass, an increase in bone fragility and high risk of fracture. Osteoporosis occurs as a result of aging, disease, or medications that accelerate bone breakdown processes. Osteoporosis can be diagnosed when fractures already happen or serious health issues indicate of bone problems, and most women are probably unaware of the risk factors that can be changed by prevention. The first step in preventing osteoporosis in women should be to make them aware of the risk factors. Prevention should focus on changing bad life habits to prevent disease. The key element of bone health is maintaining physical activity, a balanced and regular diet and proper intake of vitamin D and calcium. The purpose of this paper is to determine and statistically show how educated the citizens of the Republic of Croatia are about osteoporosis, its risk factors, complications and prevention. A survey questionnaire consisting of 41 questions was used to determine the data. The study involved 145 women and 15 men, ie a total of 160 respondents. The results indicate that the citizens of the Republic of Croatia know less about the risk factors for osteoporosis, but they recognize calcium and vitamin D as nutrients important for bone health. The research also shows the need to increase awareness and education about osteoporosis, the importance of physical activity and nutrition in osteoporosis prevention.
