Healthcare employees such as doctors, physiotherapists, nurses and other related professions are very often exposed to stressful situations in the workplace, which relate to working in emotionally demanding situations related to the physical and mental requirements of patients with whom they work and other organizational stressors. The purpose of this study was to examine which stressors are most common in each of the sectors, and which of them most affect the productivity of physiotherapists in the private and physiotherapists in the public sector. The research population consists of physiotherapists in Croatia, while the sample consists of physiotherapists employed in the public and private sectors. Data for the survey were collected through an online questionnaire composed of a standardized survey questionnaire “Stress in the workplace of hospital health professionals”. A total of 188 completed questionnaires were collected, but 182 questionnaires were duly completed, of which 83 were completed by employees working for private employers, and 99 by employees working in public institutions. The results of the study confirmed that physiotherapists in the private sector are under more stress than physiotherapists in the public sector. Each of the sectors has its own stressors that affect employees to a greater or lesser extent, but definitely both groups share difficulties with poor communication and conflicts with superiors and a lack of opportunities for professional and intellectual challenges. The stress and results of the questionnaire were definitely influenced by the corona crisis and the pandemic during which the research was conducted. Definitely, more research should be conducted on this topic, which would be the basis for timely action that would increase the satisfaction and productivity of physiotherapists employed in both sectors.sector.
