Abstract Komponente mentalnog zdravlja su emocionalno blagostanje (osjećaji), mentalno blagostanje (pozitivno funkcioniranje), društveno blagostanje (odnosi s drugima i s društvom), fizičko blagostanje (fizičko zdravlje) i duhovno blagostanje (smisao života). Poremećaji mentalnog zdravlja djece i adolescenata veliki su javnozdravstveni problem u svijetu, a i u Hrvatskoj. Imaju relativno visoku prevalenciju, početak u djetinjstvu i mlađoj odrasloj dobi, mogući kronični tijek, štete kvaliteti života pacijenata i njihovih obitelji te čine veliki dio zdravstvene potrošnje. U ispitivanju je korišten Upitnik snaga i poteškoća djeteta (The Strenghtsand Difficulties Questionnaire - SDQ).
Abstract (english) Emotional well-being (feelings), mental well-being (positive functioning), social well-being (relationships with others and with society), physical well-being (physical health) and spiritual well-being are all components of mental health. Mental health disorders in children and adolescents are a major public health problem in the world and in Croatia. They have a relatively high prevalence, onset in childhood and young adulthood, a possible chronic course, damage to the quality of life of patients and their families, and account for a large share of health spending. The aim of this paper was to present the results of the implementation of mental health screening in students of 7th grade of primary schools in the Primorsko-goranska County from 2014. The Strenghtsand Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) was used in the study. The respondents were students of 7th grade of primary schools in the Primorsko-goranska County - boys and girls aged 12-14 years. The study was attended by a total of 415 (52%) boys and 376 (48%) girls who answered all questions from all categories. The total average score on the My Strengths and Difficulties questionnaire is 8.07, which shows that there are mental health problems in both sexes. A statistically significant difference was found on average scores between girls and boys in the category of emotional problems, behavioural problems, hyperactivity and attention disorders, and prosocial relationships. Boys show more difficulty in behavioural problems, hyperactivity and attention deficit disorder and prosocial relationships than girls. Girls show more difficulty in expressing emotional symptoms. However, incidence of borderline and abnormal scores on the observed scales, is higher for boys only on behavioural problems and problems with prosocial relationships while in other areas there is no significant difference. Preserving the mental health of children is extremely important in order for future, healthy generations to develop as well. In order to preserve and protect mental health, it is important to detect difficulties and early intervention as early as possible.
