INTRODUCTION: Cardiac arrest is a sudden cessation of cardiac activity that requires immediate intervention aiming to save the patient's life. It is a serious condition that usually comes without any previous signs or symptoms. Quick response, adequate emergency medical care and timely application of basic resuscitation measures are key factors for patient survival. Istria County, located on the northwestern coast of Croatia, hosts many tourists throughout the year due to its popularity in tourist circles. In such an environment, the provision of effective emergency medical care becomes extremely important to ensure the safety and well-being of residents and visitors. OBJECTIVE: The main aim of this research is to examine the success rate of cardiopulmonary resuscitation with regard to the age and gender of the patient, the application of lay resuscitation (chest compressions) and the use of AED devices. METHODS: Data from e-hitna program were used, for the period from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2022. Research was conducted in Istria County. The data were obtained by processing the "Utstain" form, which is filled in for every cardiac arrest in the outpatient emergency service of the Istrian County. Forms that had not been completely filled out are not included in the statistical analysis. RESULTS: In addition to the general review of the resuscitation success rates in the County of Istria in the period from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2022, a statistical analysis of gender, age, implementation of lay resuscitation, use of AED devices and differences in resuscitation outcomes was carried out. The research showed that 38% of patients who underwent resuscitation were younger than 65 years, while 62% were older than 65 years. Return of spontaneous circulation occurred in 31% of patients. Also, it was found that lay resuscitation was performed in 45% of patients, while 54% of patients received resuscitation exclusively by medical staff. CONCLUSION: The results of the research showed that there is a statistically significantly higher percentage of lay resuscitations in the group of patients in whom, unfortunately, the return of spontaneous circulation was not achieved. Areas to work on were also identified, such as citizen education and availability of AVD devices. The AVD device was used in only 8 of 1338 resuscitations.
