Intra – Amniotic Infection Syndrome (SIAI) or chorioamnionitis is an acute inflammation of the placenta and /or the uterine wall, the membranes of chorion, amniotic fluid, fetus and the umbilicus may be affected by inflammation. It occurs in 2 - 10% of all pregnancies, more often in premature labor than in term delivery. Causes of infection may be: bacteria, viruses, fungi, mycoplasma, protozoa and chlamydia. Inflammation is most commonly formed by the ascending infection of the vagina or cervix. Intra – Amniotic Infection Syndrom ecan occur with a intact membranes and with ruptured membranes and each has its own subtypes. Clinical picture is manifested by high temperature, cervix sensitivity, maternal tachycardia (>100 /min), fetal tachycardia (>160 / min), purulent or foul amniotic fluid with unpleasant smell, leukocytosis (>15,000 cells /mm³) and poor general condition of women, Diagnosis is based on clinical images, laboratory diagnostics, ultrasound, and amniotic fluid analysis. There are numerous complications that affect both mother and child can cause long-lasting damage that will reduce the quality of life. The treatment depends on the gestation age, the position and lie of the fetus, the cervix maturity, the signs of infection and the intact or ruptured membranes.
