Osteoporosis is a systemic and progressive disease that affects the bone tissue, more specificly the micro-architecture of the bones, causing the resorption and reduction of the mineral part of the bone. There are many risk factors and comorbidities that cause and improve inhibition of bone mineral degradation and excitation. Osteoporosis is a very widespread disease that is becoming a major public health problem due to its most severe consequence, which is osteoporotic fracture. There is currently no cure for osteoporosis, but treatment is focused on reducing the symptoms of osteoporosis, risk factors and comorbidities (cause-and-effect treatment), and reducing the risk of falls and fractures. The aim of the study was to determine the differences between the occurrence of risk factors and comorbidities in people with osteoporosis in urban and rural areas. The study involved 30 women, divided into two groups of 15 respondents; persons of urban and rural areas. To determine the occurrence of risk factors and comorbidities, a questionnaire was consisted of 23 questions. The results were statistically processed using a nonparametric chi-square test, statistical significance was shown as P> 0.05, and other data were presented pictorially and tabularly. Based on the obtained data and literature studies, it can be concluded that the incidence of comorbidities and risk factors is more common in rural than in urban areas and that people in rural areas have an increased risk of fractures due to the increased percentage of risk factors. It is necessary to increase awareness and educate people about the changing risk factors in order to avoid the possibility of osteoporosis.
