Introduction: Prostate cancer is one of the most frequently recorded cancers in the male population. The treatment procedures are mainly limited to surgical interventions that can be performed as classic radical prostatectomy and laparoscopic radical prostatectomy, while modern methods include robot-assisted radical prostatectomy. Objective: To analyze the number of open and laparoscopic radical prostatectomy surgeries in the Zadar General Hospital in the period from 2015 to 2020. Subjects and methods: A retrospective study was conducted in which data were collected on gender, age and the number of days of hospital stay after the procedure. Results: Collected data concerning 647 procedures are divided into 299 open and 348 laparoscopic procedures. Also, according to age, 639 patients older than 49 years and 8 patients younger than 49 years were recorded. It was recorded that the average stay in the hospital after the procedure with an open approach was 7.76 days, while the same was 8.66 days for the laparoscopic procedure. Conclusion: The analysis of the collected data indicated the fact that the surgical procedure is more often performed with a laparoscopic approach, mainly in patients who are older than 49 years. Also, the results of the research show that the postoperative recovery, i.e. the stay of patients in the hospital after the procedure, is shorter for those who have undergone the surgical procedure of open radical prostatectomy.
