Background: Suprascapular neuropathy is a typical injury of overhead athletes. It is a common injury among volleyball players. It is caracterized with compression of suprascapular nerve and atrophy of supraspinatus and infraspinatus muscles. Goal of this paper was to test if exsists association between atrophy of supraspinatus and infraspinatus muscles with deviation of range of motion in glenohumeral joint, which can assume that exsists disfunction of suprascapular nerve among senior volleyball players and to estimate correlation between symptomes and players position, serve type and preventive programes. Methods: The study was conducted on senior volleyball players n=40 at age between 14 and 28 years old.Volleyball players were examined with functional measurments what involved measurements of range of motion in glenohumeral joint with goniometry and measurements of muscles strenght with dinamometry A survey questionnaire was conducted which contained questions about the playing position and type of service and about the training procedure. Results: The incidence of suprascapular neuropathy symptoms were 20% among senior volleyball players. The correlation of the suprascapular neuropathy with the shooting position wasn’t statistical significant (p = 0.448). However, considering the dominant side of the body, 66% of athletes with the sign of suprascapular neuropathy diagnosis played a shooting position. The correlation of suprascapular neuropathy with float service wasn’t statistical significant (p = 0.330). The correlation of suprascapular neuropathy and the intensity of training according to the hi-squared test was p= 0.280 and according to the t-test of the difference in arithmetic meanings was p = 0.015. Conclusion: There is a correlation between infraspinatus and supraspinatus muscle weakness and an increased range of the glenohumeral joint suggesting suprascapular neuropathy. The suspicion of incidence of this diagnosis was 20%. There is no significant association between diagnosis and shooting position. However, most of the players with suprascapular neuropathy were shooters. There is a visible connection between the waving service with signs of diagnosis. Intensive preventive programs can be partly understood as necessary for the prevention of suprascapular neuropathy in the senior volleyball team. However, further research is needed to confirm this knowledge.
