The triage system is the basic structure by which all admitted patients in OHBP are categorized into appropriate groups using structures and scales for assessing urgency. Triage is the process by which a triage nurse / technician assesses and determines the degree of urgency of a patient's condition. Urgency is determined using the patient's clinical condition and is used to determine the time required to perform the intervention in order to achieve the best possible outcome. The Australian-Asian triage scale has been used in Croatia since 2012. ATS is a clinical tool that serves to provide timely care in accordance with the degree of clinical urgency and on this basis assigns one of five triage categories which determines the maximum waiting time for a doctor's examination. The aim of this research is to analyze the data of triage categorization of patients admitted to the unified emergency hospital admission of KBC Rijeka. This study included 58,458 patients who were admitted to the unified emergency admissiom of the University Clinic Rijeka in the period from 01.01.2019. to 31.12.2019. The representation of the 4th and 5th triage categories and the average waiting time for a doctor's examination for the same are shown. in the OHPB of the Universety Clinic Rijeka, the 4th and 5th triage category was assigned to 26,914 or 46.04% of patients. The average waiting time for a doctor's examination at OHBP Sušak was 36 minutes for the 4th category and 27 minutes for the 5th triage category. At the Rijeka site, the average waiting time was 39 minutes for the 4th category and 28 minutes for the 5th triage category. The obtained data indicate that a large number of triage patients coming to OHBP is not life-threatening, fact that the average waiting time for a doctor's examination for these patients meets the criteria of the ATS triage system, indicates high efficiency and effectiveness of ATS and OHBP KBC Rijeka.
