Male breast cancer is far rarer in men than in women and it occurs in 0,1 % of all male cancers, or in between 0,6 and one percent of all breast cancers. Discovery of the male breast cancer happens in the late stage of the disease, and the incidence of the breast cancer shows correlation with the positive estrogen and progestogen hormonal receptors. The main goal of this paper is the analysis of the male breast cancer in correlation with the type of the receptor and treatment prognosis of all patients hospitalized on the Surgery Clinic, Department for general Surgery of Clinical Hospital Centre Rijeka. Research results proved that in later stages of the disease, with tumors that are hormone dependent, there is strong role of the antiestrogen therapy and that male breast cancer is hormone dependent disease. Research results showed that early discovery and timely treatment are crucial for successful male breast cancer treatment. 28 % of the subjects are in Stage 1 of the disease, and most of the subjects are in Stages 3 or 4 of the disease development. State of the axillae, as the results show, were positive in half of the subjects, and negative on the other half. These results prove that male breast cancer is diagnosed much later than the female breast cancer and it is connected to the hormonal receptors. Healing prognosis is bad, due to the late stage of detection, but for more conclusive results, more extensive research should be done on the more relevant sample.
